Ampney Down Farm is a hidden gem in the Cotswolds - farmed by the Verey's since 1959. They have held many equestrian events here ranging from local Hunt Team chases to Pony Club ODE'S. It was therefore a natural progression to develop the site into a BE affiliated venue. The permanent established grassland has many interesting features - sunken roads, Cotswold stone walls, hedges and more!
Andrew Hunter has designed and built the track here since 2010 ( In 2012 he was part of the London Eventing Team that built the Greenwich Olympic course) Last year Adrian Ditcham - course designer for Wellington, Belsay, Millfield and experienced builder joined Andrew to redesign our Novice track - which was popular with leading event riders - Andrew Nicholson, William Fox Pitt, Jonty Evans and Vittoria Panizzon is a regular visitor here with her young horses.
“The Calmsden course is an ideal location to educate novice horses. It uses the natural terrain well and there is a wide variety of obstacles. Andrew Hunter has constructed solid well built fences.”
We have a fantastic team of volunteers who help at Calmsden. They work incredibly hard to ensure that the event runs efficiently and safely and that everyone has a fantastic day.
"Jo, Georgina and the rest of the team at Calmsden made the whole experience enjoyable rather than stressful. From start to finish we were offered support and ideas of how to make the most of the opportunity they had given us. It is fantastic to be associated with such a professional and friendly event.”Contact us About Sponsorship
“This will be the fourth year 'Mmm! Coffee' have been invited to the Calmsden Horse Trials in Cirencester to provide high quality coffees and milkshakes at their British Eventing events. We have always found the team to be most welcoming and helpful when we are on site, ensuring our pitch is ready and we have access to everything we need. Their communications and applications processes are well coordinated and we always have confidence the event will be well attended and publicised. Really couldn’t ask more from an event organiser, we are delighted to be part of their events team!”
